After four, happy years of welcoming lovely guests, the old Den is being replaced with this wonderful space. Everything at The Devon Den has been designed to encourage guests to immerse themselves in nature. The open-plan cabin’s unique shape, hand-crafted by Jo and Ben, lets you breeze in and out to the woods, wander to the crackling fire pit and dip your toes in the stream, take a dip in the wood fired hot tub, or just enjoy the rocking chair on the veranda, all while surrounded by the sounds of wildlife. A genuine love of, and commitment to, the environment runs through every choice, from the sustainable materials used to make the cabin, to the top end solar power system, a dry toilet and even the little ladders in the pond for frogs and newts. In the Den there are games, jigsaws and a library including recipe books full of tips for getting the most out of the BBQ and superb local produce. On booking, you will be sent a digital guidebook which works offline, with all the info you need to get the most from your stay - maps to guide you along the nearby lanes and footpaths, details of secret Dartmoor swimming spots, tips on the best pasty shop. You can nip out to the glorious beaches at Bude, just forty minutes away, or take the Granite Way cycle path from Okehampton along the old railway lines. Your hosts are knowledgeable and passionate eco builders who could give you a crash course on every aspect of sustainable living, but even if you simply linger here for a few days, you’ll come away with a renewed appreciation for the peace and beauty of nature.

    The terms "boathouse conversion" and "industrial design" may not seem like the best coupling upon first listen, but both concepts have been seamlessly married in The Old Devon Boathouse. The interior is stylish and contemporary, while the setting is quaint and maritime. Sitting right on the River Exe in the town of Topsham, you will be ideally situated to explore the region, and the county's capital Exeter is just a short drive away. Sleeping up to three guests, The Boathouse is a wonderful retreat for couples or small families with an appreciation for modern décor and charming vistas. Exposed white brick walls, luxury modern furnishings, and top-quality basalt floor tiles run through the property, lending it an industrial, yet sleek, air. Upon entering, you will be greeted by the open planned living area (and a classic Porsche in the adjoined garage). The sitting room contains a comfy couch, flat screen TV, and a cosy wood burning stove. An ultra-contemporary kitchen sits adjacent and comes well equipped. The master bedroom boasts a comfortable double bed and a beautiful ensuite. The bathroom houses a standalone bath and has black 3D Bisazza tiles on one side, with exposed white brick on the other.     Tucked into the corner of the sheep field, the sun will arc across the sky from your perspective in the wood fired hot tub. But the perfect spots to lie back and relax don’t end there. You’ve got two other options to scrub up, with an indoor power shower for a luxurious wash after exploring the nearby coast or Dartmoor National Park, just a short drive away. There’s also the wonderful tin bath outdoors, on the covered deck, complete with a bath tray to keep the prosecco handy. When you’re not lounging around (and there’s still the Adirondack loungers, mind you), you might be cooking up a storm in the BBQ area outside when the sun’s shining, or of course in the small kitchenette if it’s a cooler evening. But after dinner, all bets are off, and it’s either sipping sundowners by the firepit, or if you’ve brought young ones – toasting marshmallows to perfection. Adventure’s always just a short drive from here, and Devon’s your oyster, with plenty to do inland and across the coast. You could be down to Salcombe in under an hour, or simply Torquay in 15 minutes or so. But the real magic’s on site, especially as a couple on your own, where you can make use of the oak four poster bed and forget everyone else.
