Inside, the chunky log stairs, solid wood benches and rustic table give the fairy-tale cabin a warm and cosy feel and the thoughtful features will delight the most stylish of glampers. Foodies will love serving up delicious dishes in the Box’s kitted out kitchen before relaxing under the stars and ‘candlelit’ trees with a bubbly soak in the open-use Canadian cedarwood hot tub shared with your nearby neighbours in Moonbeam Yurt, Humble Bee and the self-catering property. Once completely relaxed, retire to the upper floor love nest, complete with king-sized bed, fur deer skins, plump cushions and warm wool carpets. The en suite shower room is made suitably rural with a small basin made from a calf feeding trough as well as a tin shower and slightly more conventional black loo.
The morning sun is your wake up call, filtering in through the Bird Box’s shutters and french door windows. Head downstairs and step out onto the veranda to enjoy your morning coffee alongside beautiful views of the park and the river way down below. If you’re looking to fly the coop for the day, wind down with an afternoon cream tea in the pretty and eclectic town of Okehampton or comb the very different north and south Devon coast lines to discover hidden gems and rugged and natural surfers' paradises, both within an hour’s reach of The Bird Box.

The Old Devon Boathouse
- 0
- 1 night
£190.00 per night
The terms "boathouse conversion" and "industrial design" may not seem like the best coupling upon first listen, but both concepts have been seamlessly married in The Old Devon Boathouse. The interior is stylish and contemporary, while the setting is quaint and maritime. Sitting right on the River Exe in the town of Topsham, you will be ideally situated to explore the region, and the county's capital Exeter is just a short drive away. Sleeping up to three guests, The Boathouse is a wonderful retreat for couples or small families with an appreciation for modern décor and charming vistas. Exposed white brick walls, luxury modern furnishings, and top-quality basalt floor tiles run through the property, lending it an industrial, yet sleek, air. Upon entering, you will be greeted by the open planned living area (and a classic Porsche in the adjoined garage). The sitting room contains a comfy couch, flat screen TV, and a cosy wood burning stove. An ultra-contemporary kitchen sits adjacent and comes well equipped. The master bedroom boasts a comfortable double bed and a beautiful ensuite. The bathroom houses a standalone bath and has black 3D Bisazza tiles on one side, with exposed white brick on the other. This juxtaposition creates the ultimate ambient space in which to soak your cares away. There is a separate single bedroom, great for a small child or third guest. Step outside The Boathouse and you will be greeted by the site of the passing boats on the River Exe. Topsham is a charming little historic town, with beautiful architecture and several bars and eateries to enjoy. You will also be perfectly positioned for exploring all that Devon has to offer. Right on the banks of the River Exe, you will have fantastic access to the Devon coast, which is replete with rocky inlets and some of the best beaches in England. The East Devon AONB is also nearby, containing over 100 square miles of protected countryside. The nearby coastal towns of Sidmouth and Exmouth are directly to the south and east respectfully. Topsham itself sits within the district of Exeter, with the city being a short 15-minute drive away. The county town of Devon, Exeter is famous for its cathedral and is a tourist hotspot with lots to see and do.

£317.90 per night
The Den is an island of beautiful design, floating in the treetops next to sister space The Hideaway Treehouse and perfectly blending the wild and the indulgent. In the daytime, throw open the doors and the breakfast bar window, sit out on the deck and live surrounded by nature. When the night draws in, close it all up and let the wood burner and underfloor heating turn the lounge into a cosy space for napping, reading or board games. As for the four-person jacuzzi, it is in an amazing decked space at the lower level and has a separate drinks fridge-freezer and lounge area. Cooking options are equally versatile, with a BBQ outdoors and fully equipped kitchen inside. While it’s an incredibly romantic spot for couples, The Den is also perfect for a family of four. One room has a king-size bed and another two full-size bunks and the deck is guarded by a rail, so toddlers can wander free. You can even bring the dog, so nobody has to miss out.Once you’re in The Den, you may not want to leave, but if you do head out then you still might not get further than the grounds of Pickwell Manor. There’s a campfire area, an animal zone, croquet lawn and even the laundry room gets great feedback for the amazing view. Day trips could see you swimming, paddle boarding or surfing at Woolacombe Bay, or heading out along the coastal path from nearby Putsborough beach. A half-hour walk into Georgeham brings you to a couple of great pubs, with The Rock Inn a great choice for a special meal and The King’s Arms for a pint in the garden and music on Fridays. And because The Den is your own little world, you can fire up the tub whenever you get back and end the day with a dip.

£145.00 per night
This unique handcrafted wood house, known as a Truffle, is one of five, spaced out across 15 acres of oak woodland that’s home to a variety of flora and fauna including wild orchids, a young family of deer, buzzards and woodpeckers. As well as an inviting wood burning stove inside, there’s a sheltered outside cooking area with a nifty Aquaforno cooking system that includes a bbq and pizza oven, and a single gas hob so you can make a speedy cup of coffee to get you going in the morning. A short walk through the sun-dappled woodland is the shower block; you’re assigned your own bathroom for your stay so you can leave personal items inside.Lie indoors in your hammock listening to the rain bounce off the Truffle with the door open – nothing smells better than the woodland in the rain – or snuggle next to your wood-burner or around your firepit if it’s chilly. In fine weather, gently swing on the outside hammock; at night you can gaze at the stars through the tree canopy above. A quarter of the site has been returned to nature, and you’ll find ancient hedge banks, a gentle stream and rope swings hanging from trees waiting to be discovered. Although you’re surrounded by a 300-acre sheep farm, Hatherleigh town centre is a short walk away and has two lovely pubs as well as a supermarket, cafe and local farm shop.
