Nestled in 20 acres of private woodland in a secret location in rural Rutland, you’ll find the completely unique Rocket Lodge. Comprised of three reclaimed grain silos and four shepherd's huts all joined together, the result is a one of a kind experience. The grain silos create cosy living spaces while the shepherd's huts provide comfortable sleeping quarters. After a busy day exploring Rutland, enjoy a pizza from the wood-fired oven out on the deck, surrounded by the woodland. In the evenings, relax in the gorgeous copper bathtub or in the wood-fired hot tub as the sun sets over the trees.
The Rocket Lodge is accessed via a bridge that takes you over an area of pond and wetland in its own part of the woodland. This takes you to a south-facing oak framed deck with wonderful views over the countryside and perfect for long lazy afternoons soaking up the sunshine. Step inside the first silo and you’ll find yourself in the wood-panelled lounge with its eclectic decor, comfy armchairs and bio-ethanol stove to keep you cosy on chilly evenings. The next silo is home to the kitchen, with a full range of appliances and a dining space in the centre.
The final silo, accessed via reclaimed oak church doors, has been reserved for the bathing room with a huge copper bath set pride of place in its centre. Lie back and relax with a fire crackling away in the stove and the mirror ball reflecting the light overhead. There’s another bathroom in one of the shepherd’s huts, painted a bold pink with a shower, toilet and sink.
You’ll find the bedrooms in the other three shepherd’s huts. There are two double rooms and one twin and they all have their own French doors, opening out onto a private gravelled area with a table and chairs. In the mornings, you’ll find these spaces provide a peaceful spot to enjoy a coffee while you soak up the scenery. On the main deck is the wood-fired hot tub, the pizza oven and the BBQ area. There’s also a fire pit so you can sit out late into the evening, toasting marshmallows while you do a bit of stargazing.
If you can tear yourself away from your woodland hideaway, there’s plenty to do in the area. Rutland is a great place to explore the outdoors with two nature reserves and watersports available on Rutland Water. There are also lots of pretty market towns and villages to visit, many with fantastic cafes and restaurants. The town of Uppingham is just a few miles from the lodge with a traditional market on Fridays and shops and galleries to discover tucked away down ancient alleyways. Not far from Rutland Water, you’ll find the bustling town of Oakham with lots of independent shops and its own brewery.
