Hallington Mill & Barn
- 0
- 2 nights min low season 3 nights high & Weekends
£415.00 up to £990.00 per nights
Tucked away in a private valley in the rolling countryside of Northumberland, this beautifully restored 16th century mill offers a peaceful escape for family and groups of friends. The building itself is steeped in history with the original mill workings still on display in the dining room. It’s surrounded by 35 acres of meadows, fields and woodland which you can explore, perhaps encountering roe deer, owls or even kingfishers along the way. After a day discovering Northumberland’s beautiful natural landscapes and fascinating historic sites, snuggle up back at the mill in front of a roaring fire and plan the next day’s excursions. Guests can also book the nearby Threshing Barn alongside the mill if they wish to bring five more guests along with them for their stay. Step inside the mill and you’ll find big living spaces, perfect for socialising on the ground floor. Put your feet up in the library and get stuck into a good book or board game while the kids discover the hidden toy chest in the snug. There are comfy sofas and armchairs in the spacious living room set in front of a huge fireplace with a log burner. The kitchen is fully equipped to cater for anything from quick breakfasts before you head out exploring to big Sunday roasts for the whole family. Eat at the kitchen table with the sash windows letting in plenty of natural light or in the Mill Room where you can get 18 around the table. This is where you’ll find the old internal mill workings still on display. There’s also a handy utility room with direct access from the patio and facilities for washing muddy clothes and storing your outdoor kit. You’ll find the bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs which can be set up in various configurations to suit large groups. The spacious main bedroom has its own living area with views over the countryside and a roll-top bath and walk-in shower in the ensuite. There’s a second roll-top bath in a slightly smaller ensuite room with a big comfy double bed and sash windows letting in plenty of natural light. Two further bedrooms can be set up with king size beds or as twin rooms and the final double room is located in a quiet part of the house overlooking the orchard. If you need a bit of extra sleeping space, one of the sofas in the snug downstairs can be converted into a bed. If you’re looking for a stay with a larger group then there is space for a further five guests (meaning you can bring 18 in total) in a nearby barn that can be booked alongside the mill. The Threshing Barn has been finished to a very high standard, blending modern elegance and function with historic period features. The barn has a kitchen, living and dining space as well as two beautifully elegant bedrooms. Enquire with the owners when booking if you would like to book the barn alongside Hallington Mill. Outside, you’ll find a semi-wild garden that fits in beautifully with the surrounding landscape. Get a BBQ going on the patio and enjoy the views over the pond while the kids discover the play area. Next to the house, you’ll find ‘Henry’s Woods’ which makes another great play area with a stream to paddle in and dens to be built. You can also wander down the grass paths through the garden and down to Hallington Burn to see if you can spot some local wildlife. If you fancy venturing a little further afield, Hallington Mill sits on St. Oswald’s Way, a long distance walking route from Lindisfarne to Heavenfield with some spectacular scenery along the way. Tackle some of this route or set out on one of the circular walks from the front door that take you to Hallington Reservoir. There are also plenty of historical sites nearby, some dating back to the time of the Romans, as well as stately homes and market towns to visit. There are several golf courses in the area and Kielder Water and Forest Park is also nearby with lots of great cycle routes.
